Children’s Book - Take 2
I’ve talked about my first book on several occasions and even briefly mentioned my upcoming release. Well, I have more exciting news for you! This time around, I was more diligent, mindful of what didn’t work with my first book, and streamlined the process. Having already gone through this once, even if it wasn’t perfect, made this second time around much more comfortable and enjoyable. This experience is a testament to not waiting for perfection before taking action. We do the thing, and then we modify as needed—that's how Moroccan Dreams came to be.
Although I wrote the book shortly after our 2023 trip, when the details were still vivid, the illustrations were a challenging part over which I had less control. I could have easily returned to Fiverr, but my previous experience left me uneasy. Fortunately, I discovered my illustrator right at my 9-5 job. A special shoutout to Alyssa, whose talent and willingness to step out of her comfort zone made this project possible. I couldn’t have completed it without you!
Behind the Scenes
The idea for the book originated from creating an activity book for my daughter during a trip to Jamaica. It included coloring pages, challenges, and a blank page for reflection. Although our Jamaica trip was more of a vacation with plenty of beach and pool time, it sparked the idea of documenting our travels. Our subsequent trip to Morocco, however, was a true adventure. Experiencing Ramadan there was magical, and I knew I wanted to document this journey with my daughter. Once I decided to do it, I was all in—and here we are!
Illustration and Collaboration
I work with Alyssa, the amazing illustrator of this book, at my day job as a Program Manager for an automotive company. Although we didn't interact much initially, I discovered her talent through a mural she painted at work. I was thrilled at the potential collaboration and approached her about illustrating my book. Despite her limited experience in digital art, she was interested, and we agreed to learn and grow together. We discussed my vision, shared the manuscript, and worked out the details. Her illustrations brought my story to life!
Release Details
I used Amazon KDP for this book, just as I did with the first. "Moroccan Dreams: A Mother-Daughter Adventure" is scheduled for release on March 14th, so save the date! The book will be available exclusively on Amazon, and I’ll share the link once it’s live. I am grateful for everyone who has supported my writing journey, past and present.
Personal Reflections
Working on this project has been a joy. I love traveling, and exploring with my daughter fills me with gratitude. There will definitely be more travel adventure books to come.
